Comet Industries, Inc. and Subsidiaries is currently comprised of four companies: Comet Rail Products, Inc., Comet Communications & Signal, Inc., Comet Electronics LLC., and Comet Port Services LLC. The company was created as Comet Electronics in March of 1963 (now known as Communications & Signal) after recognizing the need for a Kansas City-based company that could supply, install, and service the area’s railroad microwave communications network. Comet’s commitment to service, both locally and in the field, built a strong reputation of customer service for Comet throughout the Midwest becoming a company that could be depended on for customer needs. Since Comet’s inception in 1963, Comet has remained a prominent supplier to the rail industry with communication, signal, and related services. Over time Comet has evolved, keeping pace with technology in order to meet our railroad customer’s needs.
The founder was Ralph O. Johnson. Mr. Johnson was active in day to day operations until his retirement in 1992. Continuing the family owned business was Edwin O. Johnson who became president in 1972. Today a third generation continues the family company with Steve Woodson who took over as president in 2001.
The market diversity at Comet is one of the strengths of our business. Each division is slightly different from the other with its own unique requirements. Yet each is bound to one common denominator, namely, service. In all aspects of our endeavors, exceptional service has perpetuated success for Comet and its employees. The reference to service is not limited to customers and vendors. It also shapes our culture and attitude as a company bringing continuity to our approach across all Markets.
